Recreation

Dive in, cast your line, pitch your tent, put on your hiking shoes, grab your clubs, or just get ready to relax with a variety of fun-filled outdoor recreational choices and facilities, including:

West Boggs Lake and Park

At West Boggs Park, the options are endlessly inviting. Well-stocked with bass, blue gill, and crappie, the 622-acre lake also offers a swimming beach, while the park itself rolls out 400 acres of multi-use trails, playgrounds, 250 campsites, plus rental cabins. And if you want to expand your adventure, put fishing White River fishing and boating on your agenda.

Glendale Fish and Wildlife Area

The fishing is exceptional at Glendale FWA thanks to more than 1,400 acres of lakes and impoundments. For hunters, food plots attract a rich variety of game—dove, deer, turkey, waterfowl, rabbits, squirrels, and even pheasants. Fish, hunt, boat, watch the wildlife; you can even go berry picking. And, since half of the 120 campsites are connected to electricity, you can sleep under the stars without roughing it.

Thousand Acre Woods Nature Preserve

Enjoy an easy hike on flat terrain through one of the few silver maple and elm forests remaining in Indiana, managed by the Nature Conservancy.

City Parks

For picturesque charm you can’t do better than Eastside Park, where, in addition to fishing lakes and recreational facilities, the amenities include a bandstand, gazebos, paddle boats, and a miniature train, all adding picturesque charm as well as additional fun. Montgomery Ruritan Park is popular with residents and visitors alike for swimming, fishing, and picnicking.
